Characterization
Mining sites
The characterization of a contaminated site is the initial step to know the magnitude and distribution of the elements potentially toxic presents in the site. The objective of the present study was the characterization to determine if the site requires remediation. The analysis realized were; pH, BET, DRX, TGA, SEM and the totals and soluble determination of the concentrations of As, Cd, Pb and Zn. The results shown that the concentration the As, Cd, Pb and Zn, exceeds in average: 100, 3, 18, and 47 times, the levels of reference marked in the NOM 147 for residence use. The soil is classified from moderately acid to medium alkaline. Is a mesoporoso material, with a superficial area of 27, 92 m2g-1, the size of pore >0,106 mm. The main composition of the soil is of inorganic matter and carbonates. The soil analyzed present characteristic physic-chemical, these indicate that the metals tend to accumulate in the surface, wich is the horizon biologically more active, increasing the accessibility of the metals at the different trophic chains. According the risk that this represents for the human health and ecosystems, the site should be considerate for remediation and recuperation.
