In this work showthe corrosion behavior of API-X52 pipeline steel which presented a failure by corrosion. Structural characterization was analyzed by Optical Microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The corrosion products were identified by means of EDAX. The corrosion rates were evaluated by Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR). In the corrosion tests used a 3-electrodes experimental arrangement. The electrolytes used were water, 3.5% sodium chloride and industrial product chlorides. Analysis by SEM, identified that there is a deterioration of pitting and the corrosive element that is causing this type of deterioration is chlorine, which was found in the products of corrosion at the interface metal/corrosion products.
